Exterior insulation: wrap the building without losing a square metre

External wall insulation (ITE in French) wraps the building in an insulating layer finished with render or cladding. It removes most thermal bridges, keeps every square metre of living space and can be done while the homes stay occupied. MM RENOV PARIS designs and carries it out for houses, gable walls and co-owned apartment buildings.

Thermal insulation: treating the whole building

Fitted on the outside, the insulation runs continuously over walls, floor edges and internal wall junctions, exactly where interior insulation is interrupted. The walls stay on the warm side, storing heat in winter and releasing coolness in summer, which clearly improves comfort and can raise the DPE rating.

  • Rendered systems on polystyrene, rock wool or wood fibre
  • Ventilated cladding (timber, composite, fibre cement)
  • Window reveals, sills, parapets and plinths properly detailed
  • Coordinated with new windows and ventilation

Acoustic insulation: less noise from the street

Exterior insulation in rock wool or wood fibre, combined with high-performance windows and acoustic air vents, reduces outside noise from traffic and neighbours. We also choose the insulation and finish according to how exposed the façade is to noise.

Permissions, co-ownership and the look of the façade

ITE changes the outside of the building: a prior declaration of works is required, and the approval of the Architecte des Bâtiments de France is needed near listed monuments or in protected areas. In a co-owned building, façade work is voted at the general meeting.

Haussmann façades in dressed stone or with mouldings are generally not suited to ITE; it works well for houses, gable walls, courtyard façades and more recent buildings. We prepare the documents needed for the vote or the permission.

Exterior insulation FAQ

Do I need to move out during exterior insulation?

No. The work is done from scaffolding outside the building. Occupants stay at home; only window work needs occasional access to the rooms concerned.

What permissions are needed to insulate a façade?

A prior declaration at the town hall, plus the Architecte des Bâtiments de France’s approval in protected areas. In a co-owned building, a vote at the general meeting. We prepare these steps with you before work starts.

Does exterior insulation also help with noise?

It helps, especially with a dense material such as rock wool or wood fibre. For a real improvement against street noise, it should be paired with suitable windows and air vents.

Are there grants for exterior insulation?

French schemes such as MaPrimeRénov’ and energy-saving certificates (CEE) can fund part of the work. Their conditions change often and most require an RGE-certified contractor for the work concerned, so we go through this with you when preparing your quote.
